Men steal woman's purse after following her from Heights-area bank
Police search for Jarmaine Dorsey
HOUSTON – Police are searching for two men who targeted a woman at a Heights-area bank Thursday before stealing her purse.
The Houston Police Department said the thieves, one of them identified as Jarmaine Dorsey (pictured above), followed the woman from the bank to a hospital parking lot.
Police said when the woman went into the hospital, Dorsey broke her driver-side window, and stole her purse, laptop and other items.
Officers said they witnessed Dorsey stealing the purse and attempted to stop him, but he and the other suspect, who police have not named, evaded arrest despite striking two people's vehicles during their getaway.
Police said the men were able to get away due to heavy traffic.
Dorsey, who is wanted on multiple bank-jugging related charges, was identified by police as a member of a violent criminal street gang called Market Street Money Gang.
Three more warrants were filed for Dorsey for engaging in criminal activity, evading arrest in a motor vehicle and burglary of a motor vehicle.
Police said he is suspected to be in the Fifth Ward in Northeast Houston or the Acres Homes neighborhood in North Houston.
Dorsey and his accomplice are believed to have committed several other robberies in the area.
Police are reminding people of tips to avoid becoming a victim:
- Be alert and attentive to your surroundings.
- Look for suspicious vehicles near the ATM or in front of the bank.
- Never make a bank bag, envelope or carrying case visible.
- Once you leave the bank, make a mental note of any vehicles that may be following you.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
