SILVER SPRING, Maryland – More than 24 people were hurt and several others rescued Thursday in a explosion at an apartment complex in Silver Spring, Maryland.
At least 5 people are missing, and 3 firefighters were injured, officials said.
The fire started just before midnight after an apparent natural gas explosion.
The explosion was felt by crews at a fire station about a mile away.
Some 160 firefighters battled the flames. They also rescued several people who were trapped inside their apartments, fire officials said.
Firefighters gained control of the flames around 2 a.m.
More than 90 people were displaced and multiple buildings were damaged.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
