Homeowner shot in chest during shootout with thieves in northeast Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A homeowner in northeast Harris County was shot in the chest Thursday while trying to protect his property from thieves, deputies said.

According to investigators, three people tried to take a trailer that was parked on the street in front of the home on Blue Meadow at Hay Meadow. The homeowner heard a noise, went outside and started shooting, deputies said. The thieves shot back and hit the homeowner in the chest.

The homeowner’s son-in-law started to drive the man to the hospital when he spotted a deputy a few blocks away. The man was taken to Ben Taub in stable condition.

The thieves did not get away with the trailer.

No arrests have been made, deputies said.
