Authorities say woman's leg amputated in crash

HOUSTON – A woman's leg was amputated when she was hit by a train in northeast Houston early Saturday morning, according to authorities.

The crash was reported at 3:45 a.m. on the tracks that run under Hirsch Road between Lynnfield Street and Creston Drive.

Officials said the 27-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

Investigators said they are still trying to determine why the woman was on the tracks.
