Slain Travis County Sgt. Craig Hutchinson laid to rest Tuesday

AUSTIN, Texas – Family, friends and law enforcement officers attended the funeral for a Texas sheriff's deputy who was shot and killed at his home north of Austin last week in what authorities said appeared to be an attempted burglary.

The funeral for 54-year-old Sgt. Craig Hutchinson of the Travis County Sheriff's Office took place Tuesday morning in Austin.

The deputy used his police radio early on the morning of July 25 to report people prowling behind his house. Investigators arrived moments later and found Hutchinson lying on the ground in his backyard in Round Rock, about 15 miles from Austin. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Friends of Hutchison who worked with him in the sheriff's office spoke at the funeral.
