CHANNELVIEW, Texas – Four people, including a 1-and-a-half-year-old, a 9-month-old and a pregnant woman were hospitalized Tuesday morning after a fire broke out at their Channelview home.
Investigators said an overheated extension cord is the blame for the fire that started just before 1 a.m. at a mobile home in the 16100 block of Red Oak Rd.
Firefighters said a resident woke up to smoke and heat in a middle bedroom of the mobile home and woke others inside the home. Everyone was able to get out through a door and a window.
Firefighters were able to put the fire out in about 30 minutes, but the home was destroyed.
“After a thorough investigation, Harris County fire investigators determined an overheated extension cord caused the fire,” said Capt. Dean Hensley. “The cause of the fire is accidental/electrical.” The mobile home is a complete loss.
