Daughters of Bellaire officer who died attend Texans training camp

Officer Anthony Marco Zarate killed during July chase

HOUSTON – The daughters of Bellaire Police Officer Marco Antonio Zarate, who was killed during a chase last month, attended Texans training camp Tuesday to remember their father.

"It's really a fun experience to do because we've never been to a practice,” said Miah Zarate.

Dressed in Texans gear and smiling ear-to-ear, 11-year-old twins Miah and Mayah Zarate enjoyed the camp, like every other kid in the crowd.

"It's really cool," said Mayah Zarate. "Seeing the players is really cool, too.”

Recently, life for these girls has been hard. On July 12, they lost their father in a crash that happened during a chase.

"My dad was a huge Texans fan," Miah said. "He loved it. My whole family is Texans fans.”

Zarate even met some of his favorites, including Brian Cushing and Andre Johnson.

Tandy Camberg Harris, a member of the Bellaire community, gave the girls the camp tickets.

"We're very thankful for the community around us; helping us through this tough time,” Miah said.

"Everything that happened. We don't get to do a lot of things this summer now, but here, it's really fun," Mayah said. "We get to put our minds off of it and have fun.”
