Impaired driver hits, kills pedestrian, runs into side of building in southwest Houston, police say

HOUSTON – A driver is facing charges after a person was hit by a car and killed early Monday morning in southwest Houston.

According to police, Daniel Adonias is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the deadly crash in the 8600 block of Sands Point Dr. at around 2:40 a.m.

Police said a man was standing on a sidewalk when Adonias, driving a Toyota Scion, rapidly backed up and hit the man.

Adonias continued driving in reverse, police said, knocking a hole in the wall of a building.

“It was really explicit what went into my head,” said an angry Elizabeth Marin, as she described how she felt when she saw her wrecked Toyata Camry.

Adonias, 25, was arrested and charged after police said tests determined he was impaired.

The 65-year-old victim was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital Southwest, where he was pronounced dead.

“The man who was killed was on the sidewalk at the time," said Sgt. Isaac Duplechain, Houston Police.

The man has not been identified.  Residents offered thoughts and prayers to his family.
“I don't like to see this, and for it to be so close to me, it’s horrible," said Clara Rios.
