Cypress man, 25, sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for distribution of child porn

HOUSTON – A 25-year-old Cypress man has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison after he was convicted of distributing child pornography.

Jimmy Ortiz received a 135-month sentence in federal prison, was ordered to pay $102,500 in restitution to two known victims and will spend the rest of his life on supervised release after his prison term. He will have to comply with numerous requirements designed to restrict his access to children and the internet and will also have to register as a sex offender.

Ortiz was found in possession of over 1,500 images and more than 45 videos containing child pornography, police said.

He was making the files available to others through the use of peer-to-peer software, according to court documents. An FBI agent downloaded a video of two minors under the age of 12 performing sex acts. Another FBI agent in Oklahoma also downloaded child pornography videos from Ortiz, according to reports.

A search warrant was executed on Sept. 27, 2013. Ortiz was indicted on Jan. 30, 2014, and he pleaded guilty on Aug. 21, 2014.

Ortiz will remain in custody until he is transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.
