Families play in snow at "Chill Out at the Houston Zoo" event

HOUSTON – Several families chilled with an otter Saturday morning at the Houston Zoo.

The families were invited from 9 a.m. to noon for the "Chill Out at the Houston Zoo" event. During the winter wonderland, hundreds of children played in their own snow field next to a North American river otter, which had its own snow in its enclosure.

“It’s really enriching for our animals to get to feel and see something totally different,” Jackie Wallace of the Houston Zoo said. “The kids, they love it. People line up before we open to get a chance to play in our snow.”

Houston Zoo and TXU Energy hosted the event.

The families were also entertained with a performance from ice carving artist Reverend Butter.
