CASSELBERRY, Fla. – A 73-year-old Seminole County woman says at least 13 snakes have invaded her home after coming out of her apartment wall.
Jan Perillo said when she pulled up her carpet inside her Regency Oaks apartment, she saw snakes coming out of the wall.
"I have to pack my stuff and leave," she said. "I don't know where I'm going to begin with, and I don't know what to take."
Perillo said she found 12 snakes before a News 6 crew arrived, and pest control took away a 13th snake.
Video taken by Jan's daughter, Bonnie, showed one snake that was 2 feet long.
Perillo said she tried to handle the situation herself but became terrified. She said the first thing she could think of was to get a tool and take the snakes out of her apartment herself.
"I had my cane in one hand and my grabber, and I'm grabbing these snakes and, like, carrying them out," Perillo said.
The snakes haven't been letting Perillo get her rest.
"I haven't slept in three nights. I've been sitting in that chair looking at both sides because one hole was there and one hole was there," she said while pointing.
Perillo said she sent an email to Regency Oaks' management on July 5 but hasn't received much in return.
Maintenance stopped by her apartment on July 7, she said, after her daughter spotted a snake. She said the worker ripped up some carpet and found another snake.
News 6 also reached out to Regency Oak's management but has not heard back.
Perillo said she is not sure how long it will take to fix the problem. She is paying for her own hotel until it's fixed, she said.
