Deron Taylor sentenced to life in prison for role in slaying over Air Jordans

HOUSTON – An angry family member erupted in court, upset the jury had returned with a verdict so quickly.

A short time later, the judge read the verdict and Deron Taylor didn't even flinch.

He's now guilty of capital murder.

"We are happy to see that the jury followed the law and that they convicted him," Angela Weltin, the prosecutor, said.

A jury sentenced her son to life in prison for the 2012 murder of Joshua Woods. It was all over a pair of sneakers.

Because Taylor was only 16 when the murder happened, he will be eligible for parole in 40 years.

He is the second of four men on trial for the murder.

The victim's mother took the stand and told Taylor she forgives him.

"My son Joshua's gone and I can't hold anger and bitter in my heart because that's not gonna bring my son back," Daizy Williams said. "I asked your mother when she comes to see you, I asked her could I go with her, and I'm asking you."
