America's top gymnasts prepare for U.S. Women's Gymnastics Olympic Trials

SAN JOSE, Calif. – This weekend, San Jose, California, will transform into "Gymnastics City USA" as 15 of America's top female gymnasts compete for a spot on the women's Olympic team.

Even veterans like 2012 gold medalist Gabby Douglas say Olympic trials are so tough, they can be more nerve-wracking than the games themselves.

Douglas said,

"You really just have to go out there and show them that, 'Hey I can do this,' under the circumstance and it is, I think, the Olympic trials is definitely more nerve-wracking than the Olympics, only because nothing is guaranteed yet and, you know, the Olympics, you can kinda just go out there and enjoy yourself and everything will come together. It's really a lot of hard work before, you know, making the team."

All eyes will be on Simone Biles, of Spring, Texas, who is leading the pack going into the trials, where there are no guarantees.

Biles said, "All of us still have to earn our spots and nothing is ever handed to us so we all have something to prove. It's not like any of us have an automatic spot."

Another Texan, Madison Kocian, is also considered one to watch in the Olympic trials. The Dallas native is hoping to clinch a spot on the team and punch her ticket to Rio.

The women's competition begins Friday night on KPRC Channel 2.
