Father shoots son while attempting to stop domestic disturbance, police say

DICKINSON, Texas – A 78-year-old man shot his 38-year-old son Tuesday during an altercation in the 2900 block of Cottonwood Drive, police said.

Officers found a man at the house who had been shot in the left side of his torso. Police said they interviewed multiple people at the house, including the victim's father.

According to police, the son and his wife had an argument earlier in the day at their house, which is not where the shooting was reported. Police said the woman left the house and went to her in-laws' house. Police said the son showed up at his parents' house and started another argument with his wife.

Police said the father stepped in to stop the fight and was assaulted by his son. The father told his son to leave, but his son refused.

Reports said the father retrieved a 9mm handgun, and when he returned, his son attempted to assault him again, so his father shot him once in the torso.

Police said no charges have been filed and the case will be referred to the Galveston County grand jury for review.

Since no charges are being filed, the identities of the people involved are not being released.
