Red Cross offers shelter, services to those affected by floods

HOUSTON – The American Red Cross and its partners are extending their services to those impacted by storms and floods by operating shelters, serving meals and distributing supplies.

Lunch and dinner is served daily at Red Cross shelters from 12-12:30 p.m. and 5-5:30 p.m., as well as at mobile feeding trucks circulating in Montgomery, Liberty, Harris, San Jacinto, Waller, Fort Bend and Brazoria counties.

Cleanup supplies will be distributed Friday to families affected by flooding in Brazoria County in the Cow Creek area in Damon, Rosharon, the Holiday Lakes area in Angleton and Fort Bend County at the Red Potato Market in Simonton.

Supplies that will be distributed include squeegees, buckets, mops, gloves, bleach, insect repellent, tarps and water.

Families displaced by the flooding can take shelter at one of the following locations:

  • Brazoria County: Christ Lutheran Church, 86 Plantation Court, Lake Jackson, 77566
  • Fort Bend County: First Baptist Church, 502 S. 5th St., Richmond, 77469
  • Harris County: New Light Christian Church, 1535 Greensmark, Houston, 77067 
  • Liberty County: Calvary Baptist Church, 816 North Blair Ave., Cleveland, 77327; Liberty Community Center, 318 San Jacinto St, Liberty, 77575
  • Montgomery County: Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 109 N. Frazier St., 77301
  • Waller County: Bible Fellowship Baptist Church, 1214 FM 359, Brookshire, 77423

Red Cross officials encouraged any families seeking shelter to remember to bring essential items for their families like prescription and emergency medications, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies, important documents, diapers, formula, toys and other items for family members who have unique needs.
