Man shoots himself after shooting at upstairs neighbors during police standoff

HARRIS COUNTY – Harris County sheriff's deputies say a man who fired shots into his upstairs neighbor's apartment took his own life after a 4 1/2 hour standoff with SWAT Wednesday evening.

It happened at the Copperwood Ranch Apartments in the 6800 block of Lakeview Haven Drive.

"I was cleaning my ceiling fan and when I was going to put the tissue in the trash can I heard BANG BANG BANG when I went to go sit down on the couch. And then it ricocheted off my tile floor onto the wall, sawdust got onto my couch and I was like, somebody just shot at me," said Tracy Krouse.

Krouse said her downstairs neighbor complained about the noise level last month, but she never expected this.

No one was injured, but when deputies got on scene at 5 p.m. they say the man fired his weapon again and refused to leave his apartment.

Crisis negotiators were not able to convince the man to surrender peacefully and at 9:40 p.m. a tactical team entered the apartment and found him dead.

Investigators have not released the man's identity.
