Officials release name Fort Hood soldier killed near Sportsmen's Center

HOUSTON – Fort Hood officials released the name of a soldier killed in a shooting on Monday near the Sportsmen's Center.

Officials said Spc. Bernardino Guevara Jr., 21, of Roxbury, Massachusetts, entered into military service in September 2014 as a Patriot launching station enhanced operator. He had been at Fort Hood since March 2016, when he was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Regiment, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.

Officials said the incident is under investigation.

Guevara's awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
