Lake Jackson pumping out water after historic Brazos River flooding

The city of Lake Jackson is pumping water to protect its internal drain system.

City officials said nearly two inches of rain fell early Saturday morning causing creeks to rise to 13.4 feet at the Dow pump station near FM 2004 and Lake Road.

They decided to start pumping at the Velasco Drainage District at Timbercreek and Pecan Lake Estates (Fredrick's Ditch).

The operation began around 2 a.m.

City officials are also operating the Huckleberry pump.

They are trying to clear the internal drainage system of rain runoff in case of additional rainfall.

Lake Jackson expects a significant rise in Oyster Creek throughout Saturday and into Sunday.
