Historic flooding prompts two prison evacuations
Since the Brazos River is expected to reach historic flood levels, officials with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) announced on Sunday that two facilities in Rosharon will be evacuated.
The Terrell and Stringfellow prisons will be evacuated beginning Sunday morning, affecting approximately 2,600 inmates assigned to both facilities.
Inmates at the Ramsey unit trusty camp are being moved into main prison building.
The offenders are being transported by TDCJ buses, and are accompanied by correctional officers and other staff members.
Inmates’ families may contact TDCJ’s 24-hour hotline at 936-437-4927 to obtain information about an inmate.
