According to Houston Police Spokesman John Cannon, two men had been arguing earlier Wednesday when one of the men threatened the other with a knife.

The victim was able to get out of the apartment uninjured, police said.

Officers saw the man with a knife on a balcony and asked him to drop it, but said the man refused.

After several negotiations, the SWAT team was called out.

SWAT team members shot tear gas into the apartment so they could gain entry, Cannon said.

Cannon said the suspect went into a bathroom where he was shot with a Taser by police.

Police said the man taken into custody is described as a 60-year-old resident of the apartment.

The standoff ended around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
