HOUSTON – A Harris County deputy and a driver are now friends after the deputy saved his life when he blacked out while driving.

On Friday, Terry Reeves took his diabetes medication as he does every morning and headed to work.

Shortly after he got on Highway 59 in Humble, Reeves lost consciousness because his blood sugar dropped too low.

Deputy Anthony Bernabeo noticed something was wrong and managed to get Reeves to pull over on I-10 at the Freeport exit.

Bernabeo called for help and stayed with Reeves until they arrived.

"I'm feeling very lucky,” said Reeves. “He's my guardian angel.”

After the rescue, both Reeves and Bernabeo spent time getting to know one another.

Terry said that he isn't just his guardian angel, now he’s his friend.
