Roadside shootout involving officer caught on camera

LIVONIA, Mich. – An early-morning roadside shooting in Livonia, Detroit involving a police officer was caught on camera, according to authorities.

Livonia 911 dispatchers received calls about a white Ford Explorer weaving in and out of traffic at 2 a.m.
An officer spotted the vehicle and activated his lights, which prompted the driver to pull over his SUV in a subdivision.

Shortly after making the stop, dashcam video from the officer's patrol car shows the driver pulling a long gun on the officer. The officer is heard ordering the person to put down the weapon before unloading a barrage of shots. The gun-wielding man fired back, the video shows.

No one was killed during the shootout. The officer is OK.

The driver was shot twice. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The driver was identified as 23-year-old Joseph Frank Carlton, who was charged with multiple felonies.
