Body of missing woman found in submerged vehicle in Tomball

TOMBALL, Texas – A body found inside a submerged vehicle in Tomball has been identified as that of a missing woman, Ariel Tapscott.

Harris County deputies found the vehicle with a body inside around 3 p.m. Tuesday in a retention pond in the 19600 block of Stone Lake Drive.

Tapscott, 23, had been missing since Sunday. Investigators believe she drove down a private road, and followed it until standing flood waters forced her to turn around. They think she then backed up her Honda Accord in order to turn around, and drove backwards into the pond.

A Harris County Sheriff's Office helicopter spotted tire tracks leading from the road into the pond on the nearly 400-acre ranch.

After a 45-minute search, the HCSO Dive team found the vehicle.
