'Sweet, friendly' puppy found in Waller County with mouth duct-taped in good health, up for adoption

WALLER COUNTY, Texas – The Waller County Sheriff's Office and Crime Stoppers are looking for the person who duct-taped a puppy's mouth shut, tied a weight around its neck and left it at the bottom of a creek.

A couple stumbled across the puppy while walking near the creek Monday night.

The couple called the Waller County Sheriff's Office, and deputies went out to investigate.

“Due to the nature of the call, it is going to be animal cruelty and we are investigating this for possible criminal charges,” Corporal Bryan Mace of the Waller County Sheriff's Office said.

The puppy was taken to a veterinarian clinic and found to be in overall good health.

Vets believe the animal is about 6 months old. They say its paws are big, so it will most likely grow up to be a big dog. Vets say the animal was found in time and there will be no permanent physical damage.

The puppy is very friendly and needs a loving home. It is now up for adoption.

“He seems to be a very adoptable dog, he likes everybody,” Wendell Baker, Baker Veterinary Clinic, said. “He doesn't seem to have a mean bone in his body. He was very nice to work on, we didn't have to do any kind of special restraint or anything he's just a nice puppy.”

Anyone wishing to adopt the puppy can contact the Waller County Animal Control Office at 979-826-8282 ext. 4047.

Deputies said the case is an animal abuse investigation and the perpetrators will likely face criminal charges.

The person or people guilty of doing this haven't been caught.

“I don't even like to think what would go through peoples’ minds, I just know they'll get theirs in the end,” Mace said. “They're going to be prosecuted to the full list extent of the law, Waller County does not abide by any of this and we're going to do our best to see that justice is served for this animal.”

A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to arrest and/or charging of the person who left the dog.  Anyone with information can call 979-826-8282.
