Bayou City shines Final Four weekend

HOUSTON – With Bayou City in the National Spotlight for the big NCAA Championship match-up, many fans say its the city of Houston that came to play.

Annie Hunnel, an NCAA Fan said, "If anyone experienced fanfest or the run this weekend, you know Houston showed up for this event."

Before the opening-tip of the big game, thousands of fans were treated to plenty of festivities outside of NRG stadium.

John Burns, who was in for Final Four explained, "It's great, great. An experience. That's why we came down here for this."

From a handful of concerts including Pat Green jamming out to a free ferris wheel ride offering a birds eye view of all the fun, there was plenty more than just the game to go to.

Wendy Ruffin-Barnes, a UNC Fan said , "Like the rides that they have. Something for young and old."

For some, it was a family affair with generations in town to root on their favorite team.

Ed Weinrich, who was in with his family rooting for Villanova mentioned, "I'm so excited. I'm part of the Villanova family.

For others, it was tailgating and attempts at starting new traditions.

Mike Salata, a big Villanova fan said, "Everyone I've passed, Villanova fans, everyone has been giving one of these, a little v. But I've changed that. We go with the cat, meow meow."

No word from others yet, if that'll be catching on anytime soon.

But thing is certain, Houston made the grade this Final Four weekend.

Barnes said, "We love houston, love the Final Four."

"Honestly, it's been a fabulous experience for everybody," said Hunnel.
