Montana State University professor given occupation of 'clean toilets'

BOZEMAN, Montana – An assistant technology education professor at Montana State University says a mistake made on his fishing license renewal was influenced by racial bias.

Dr. Gilbert Kalonde found the occupation on his fishing license incorrectly entered as "CLEAN TOILETS."

Kalonde says he noticed the mistake after his teaching assistant found it.

"And they said 'Did you change your job?' and I said 'What do you mean?' and they said 'Your occupation, it says clean toilets.' I'm like 'Seriously?'" Kalonde said.

While he was renewing his fishing license at Walmart in late February, a worker asked him what his job was. He replied he worked for MSU, without specifying exactly what he did there.
