Man already in jail charged in shooting death of construction worker

Laneric Holmes

HOUSTON – A man who was already in jail is facing charges in the fatal shooting of a construction worker earlier this year.

Laneric Brad Holmes is charged with murder in the shooting of Misael Arrellanes, who was found dead at an apartment complex on Shady Lane near Parker at around 2 a.m. on Jan. 30.

Family members told KPRC 2 that Arrellanes, 39, went to get tacos and was walking back to his apartment when he was shot and killed.

A neighbor reported hearing the gunshots, then looked outside and saw Arrellanes lying in the parking lot.

Police believed at the time that the motive for the shooting might have been robbery.

Police said their investigation identified Holmes as a suspect in the case.

Holmes, 26, was already in the Harris County jail on an unrelated charge. He was charged Friday in connection with Arrellanes' death.

Court records show Holmes has a prior conviction of aggravated assault of a family member in 2011.
