Man arrested after SWAT standoff ends in NW Harris County

HOUSTON – A man who barricaded himself inside his home fired about 9 rounds at authorities when they made entry into the house around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Both Precinct 4 constables and Harris County Sheriff's Deputies were on the scene.

Pct. 4 initially responded to a 911 call made by a relative of the man - to check on him.

That relative says he and the man in question got into a fight this morning.

When Pct. 4 arrived, police say the man fired at them.

No one was hurt, but that prompted a SWAT standoff.

It took a couple hours to secure the scene.

Harris County Sheriff's office says SWAT used tear gas and bean bags to subdue the man.

The man's name has not been released.

Police say he's 34 years old and has a history of mental illness. Authorities say they've been to the house before.

He's being charged with aggravated assault of a family member and aggravated assault of a peace officer.
