Bicyclist killed in drunken driving crash, charges filed

Driver charged with intoxicated assault

HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department has charged a woman accused of driving while intoxicated and hitting another woman riding a bicycle, who later died of her injuries.

The crash happened on March 22 just before 8 p.m.

Police said the 44-year-old victim was riding a bike in the 8900 block of Almeda Road when she was hit by a car.

She was transported to the hospital, where she died on Wednesday.

The driver of the car was arrested at the scene. Elvia L. Coronado, also 44, is charged with intoxicated assault.

Houston police said it is possible that additional upgraded charges will be filed.
