Police: Fake officer uses phone scam to collect money from residents in Richmond

RICHMOND, Texas – The Richmond Police Department said Tuesday it has received multiple calls within the last few days in regard to a police imposter trying to collect money from people in the area.

Investigators said the man calls residents, pretending to notify them about an active warrant, missed court date or jury duty. The man tells the person they have to pay a certain amount of money to avoid arrest, officers said. He uses different last names and identifies himself as either a corporal or a captain, police said.

According to investigators, the imposter has gone as far as telling residents he will meet them at the police station to receive the money.

Anyone who comes into contact with this man is asked to contact local law enforcement.
