Infant girl dies from injuries in northwest Harris County wreck; 10-year-old brother also killed

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 7-month-old girl has died from injuries sustained in a weekend crash in northwest Harris County that killed her older brother.

Deputies said Juan Esparza was driving eastbound on West Mount Houston with his wife and four children inside a minivan around 8:40 p.m. Saturday.

Esparza was pulling into a Go Kart business on the north side of the road, slowed down and began to turn from the inside lane of travel as opposed to turning left from the provided two-way left turn lane.

Rijan Growe was driving a BMW SUV eastbound behind the minivan and struck the back left on the minivan.

The 10-year-old boy, Brian Esparza, was sitting in the third row on the left and the 7-month-old was being held by one of the other siblings.

Both were critically injured during the crash and taken to the hospital, where the 10-year-old died.

The 7-month-old remained in critical condition, but died from her injuries around 9 p.m. Sunday.

The crash is under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
