HPD: Young child found wandering alone at McDonald's in southeast Houston

HOUSTON – Scary moments early Monday morning when a 3-year-old boy was found wandering alone near a McDonald's, dangerously close to the Gulf Freeway.

Tim Cervantes, who lives nearby said, "It breaks my heart. If you have kids, you need to watch them and take care of them. How can a 3-year-old be wandering by himself."

Investigators say the little boy was staying at his grandparents' home nearby when he took off.

Tejal Petal, with Child Protective Services, explains, "You never want a child to get out. Our immediate concern is how did it happen. In a lot of times it's not unusual because there will be an unlocked door."

The child was found around 4:45 in the morning, near the restaurant's drive-thru window.

Employees say the child didn't appear to be hurt, but they were certainly concerned for his saftey and called police.

It's unclear how long the child had been wandering, but that's something CPS and Houston police are now working to find out.

Rose Guevara, who also lives nearby the business said, "It's sad because it's a little boy and I'm just worried about him."
