Remains of 3 suspected smuggled immigrants found in South Texas

EDINBURG, Texas – Law enforcement officers in South Texas have found the remains of three people suspected of being smuggled immigrants.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection statement announced the deaths Wednesday and blamed the deaths on human smuggling. Authorities are trying to identify the individuals discovered last weekend.

Border Patrol agents working near Sarita were notified by Kenedy County sheriff's deputies that they found a dead female. The body was transported to a funeral home.

Agents were also alerted to skeletal remains found near Riviera. The remains were sent to a forensics lab. Officials didn't immediately say who found the remains.

Border Patrol agents in McAllen agents received information from a concerned citizen about a body floating in a canal near Mission. The body was transported to a funeral home.
