New program cleans abandoned lots in Houston
HOUSTON – Houston's abandoned lots are getting a makeover.
Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Commissioner Gene Locke officially launched a program Tuesday to remove debris and clean dozens of neglected lots in Houston.
Project crews have already cleaned several eyesores by mowing the grass, removing trash, boarding up homes and generally making the abandoned lots tidy.
The project is not only meant to improve the look of the neighborhood but overall health and safety of people who live in the area.
