CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Police say a South Texas man has been charged in last summer's death of his 4-month-old son who was left in a hot car for at least 40 minutes.

County jail records show 22-year-old Alex Rodriguez of Corpus Christi was being held Tuesday on charges of criminally negligent homicide and abandoning or endangering a child. His toddler daughter was also left in the car during the Sept. 8 incident but survived.

No attorney was listed to speak for Rodriguez, who was arrested Monday with bond set at $25,000.

Corpus Christi police have said they believe the father drove home with the children, but entered the residence without them.

Alex Rodriguez Jr. died at a hospital. His then-16-month-old sister was treated at the scene and released to relatives.
