Grandmother accused of DWI with grandchildren in car

Two children, ages 7 and 14, were in the car

BROOKSHIRE, Texas – A woman is accused of driving drunk in Waller County with her grandchildren in the car.

A Waller County sheriff's deputy said he pulled Sandra Johnson over on March 12 around 11 p.m. because the car she was driving had an expired registration.

When the deputy pulled Johnson over on FM 329 in Brookshire, he said he detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car.

The deputy said he asked Johnson if she had consumed any alcohol. She said she had six beers and a couple of shots.

There were several other people in the car, including two children, ages 7 and 14. She told the deputy the minors were her grandchildren.

Johnson failed a sobriety test and was arrested and charged with DWI with child passengers under 15 years of age.
