Coast Guard rescues 3 people from sailboat in Gulf

HOUSTON – Three people were rescued Saturday morning from a disabled 41-foot sailboat that was floating toward severe weather 40 miles south of High Island.

The captain of the Homer Odyssey reported around 6:30 a.m. that the vessel had lost engine power, the mast was down and they were floating toward severe weather in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Coast Guard launched a 45-foot response boat and a helicopter crew around 9:15 a.m. Rescuers arrived an hour later, got the Odyssey in tow and transferred the passengers to another boat.

The two adults and one teenager aboard the Odyssey were all wearing life jackets and did not report any injuries.
