Hoverboard catches fire inside Orlando home

Mother trying to get money back

ORLANDO, Fla. – A family says their home was pumped full of smoke Sunday night after a hoverboard they were charging caught fire inside their home.

Stephanie Bass said her family was watching television Sunday night when they heard a crackle come from the device.

"It just had a big explosion. A popping sound," said Bass. "I jumped up, and there was fire!"

The fire left scorch marks up the wall of the room, and it sent soot drifting throughout the home.

The family put the fire out with a fire extinguisher, and Orlando fire crews arrived to make sure it was completely out.

Bass said she just purchased the hoverboard three days ago from the website Wish.com.

She said she contacted them Monday to get her money back, and she still hasn't heard anything.

No one was injured in the fire, but Bass says the cleanup is going to be extensive.
