SHEPHERD, Texas – Credit card theft allegations turned into an interesting arrest for San Jacinto County deputies in Shepherd.

David Schumaker, 26, was charged with credit card theft after trying to escape in a pink Escalade Power Wheels car, according to the San Jacinto County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded Feb. 25 to a call regarding credit card theft at a home in Shepherd. The card owner saud Schumaker took her credit card and bought items at a local auto parts store without her permission. The woman and Schumaker are personally acquainted, deputies said.

The woman said she saw Schumaker carrying a car battery after she received a cellphone alert that her credit card was being used. She told deputies Schumaker put the battery into a toy car and then drove away in it.

Deputies later found Schumaker driving the kid’s vehicle on FM 223 in Shepherd.

“You just never know what you are going to run into out there,” Sheriff Greg Capers said.
