Shannon Miles' attorney wants Sen. John Whitmire to back off case

HOUSTON – The attorney for the man accused of killing Deputy Darren Goforth has just filed new documents in the case.

Shannon Miles' attorney, Anthony Osso, wants a judge to order a state lawmaker to stop interfering in the case.

Miles was recently deemed incompetent to stand trial.

State Sen. John Whitmire took steps to speed up the process of getting Miles into a mental institution.

The defense attorney believes Whitmire may somehow influence doctors to declare Miles competent — and prosecuted quickly.
