High winds fuel fire that rips through Katy home
KATY, Texas – A family is out of their home after a raging fire Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called around 1:15 a.m. after a passerby saw smoke coming from the two-story Katy home in the 21500 block of Highland Knolls. When emergency crews arrived, heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the home. Firefighters said high winds made it difficult to fight the flames, causing them to call more units for backup.
The residents were not home when the fire broke out. They arrived as crews were working to put the fire out, officials said.
No one was injured. Officials said the fire may have caused smoke damage to a home next door.
"When my dogs woke us up, my mom lives with us too, so we all started yelling and telling everybody to get up and I saw the flames coming through our kitchen window and I looked through the kitchen window and all of the flames were flying out of their kitchen window," neighbor Lee Ann Johnson said.
The Harris County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
