High winds damage tents at Houston Rodeo

HOUSTON – Show officials reported wind damage to the Rodeo Express tents, which are set up to transport rodeo visitors to NRG Park.

"We had a wind anomaly last night. A strong line came through," said Joel Cowley, CEO, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Cowley said tents near Stadium Drive and Fannin Street were affected. The Rodeo Express pickup is comprised of 700 feet of tent space. Officials said roughly 200 feet will have to be replaced.

"The tent was set to manufactures expectations. And is rated for 75 moles per hour. So, this was a very strong gust that came through," Cowley said.

No injuries were reported. Rodeo crews are working to fix the problem. Officials said tent replacement is not expected to impact scheduled activities for the weekend.
