Man shot, killed in front of wife outside home

HOUSTON – The case of a man who was shot and killed in front of his wife in the driveway of his home in northeast Houston will be referred to a grand jury.

Police said someone knocked on the couple's front door at around 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 19. Sherron Wilkins and his wife went outside to speak with the person when the two got into an altercation, police said. The man then pulled a gun and shot Wilkins, according to police.

Investigators said a family friend, who was in a room inside the house, heard the gunshots and ran to the window. The friend told police he saw a dark two-toned SUV driving away.

The wife performed CPR until paramedics arrived, police said. Wilkins was taken to the hospital, where he died.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.

Police identified a 60-year-old man as the shooter. He was detained questioned and released on Feb. 22.

The case will be presented to a Harris County grand jury.
