Police find ATM in stolen truck after chase ends in crash in northeast Houston

HOUSTON – Two people were arrested Thursday morning with an ATM in the back of a stolen truck after leading officers on a chase through northeast Houston, police said.

Houston police said witnesses flagged them down when they saw a burglary at a Texaco station in the 3800 block of Gessner at Westpark. Officer spotted the truck and began chasing it.

The chase ended when the driver crashed under a bridge on Eastex Freeway and the North Loop.

Authorities said the thieves stole a man’s truck out of his driveway.

The man’s who owns the truck told Channel 2 he couldn’t have imagined that it was involved in a wild police chase while he was asleep at home.

"They say, 'Do you own a black F-350?' I said 'Yeah why?' They go, 'Cuz it isn't here.' Sure enough I looked out in my driveway and it was gone." the truck owner said. "Start hearing a banging on the door at 5 a.m., go out to see who it is and it's HPD."

Torian Davis was charged with evading arrest and criminal mischief. Mathis Wiser was charged with criminal mischief.

"You can look at this and say it's a victimless crime because no one got hurt, but I can't just go out and buy another $60,000 truck. Even with the insurance, it's only going to be a fraction of what you're going to get to replace something like that." the truck owner said.
