Investigation underway after deadly wreck in Fort Bend County

Deputies: Driver in construction van swerved, overturned vehicle

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash that has completely shut down traffic on FM 762 near Crabb River Road on Monday night.

On an otherwise typically dark stretch of road, the glow of first responders lights flooded the street and scene of the deadly crash.

"(it) doesn't appear anybody was on the road at the time, because we have no witnesses," Sgt. John Moore said.

According to deputies, a person was driving a construction van south on FM 762 near Crabb River Road when the driver swerved.

"(The driver) veered off to the side of the road and over-corrected and overturned the vehicle and he rolled over the ditch," Moore said. "It doesn't appear as he was wearing his seat belt."

Investigators said the driver died on the scene. The heavy equipment inside van combined with the impact was the likely cause.

"It was a construction van with heavy equipment like a compressor and nail gun, a lot of construction material that caused some traumatic injuries to him," said Moore.

It's unclear why the driver lost control of the vehicle.
