HOUSTON – A Rice University student was sexually assaulted early Saturday by another student on campus, Rice University police confirm.
The assault took place around 12:30 a.m. at a private party on campus, according to police. According to the school's newspaper, it happened as the two were dancing during a party at Sid Richardson College.
"The first thing that comes to mind is at a party there's alcohol and when that occurs or when that's present, people can tend to go overboard and it loses their judgment," resident Eging Lu said.
"The Rice University Police Department issued a crime alert and conducted an investigation that enabled them to identify the suspect, who is a student," Johnny Whitehead, Rice University chief of police, released in a statement. "The university has taken steps to keep the campus safe and is continuing to investigate the case and considering further actions."
The university has not said if the student was arrested.
