Alvin police: Man on run after gun store smash-and-grab

ALVIN, Texas – Police say a man is on the run after committing a smash-and-grab at a gun store Friday morning in Alvin and then later leading law enforcement officers in a chase down FM 528.

According to the Alvin Police Department, the man crashed a white pickup, which had been stolen in Houston, into the front of R&G Guns at 217 West Coombs St. around 1:30 a.m. Police said he then grabbed four long guns out of the shop and sped off.

Brazoria County deputies later spotted the truck on FM 528 and chased him into Friendswood, where he raced through a parking lot and subdivision. Authorities said the man jumped out of the truck and ran off on foot.

Alvin police and Brazoria County sheriff’s deputies partnered with Friendswood police to set up a perimeter around the area but could not find him, officials said.

Alvin police said the four guns were recovered and returned to the store owner. Authorities said they believe only one man was involved in the robbery.
