Ex-councilman's north Houston restaurant ruined by fire

HOUSTON – Firefighters battled a fire at a former councilman's restaurant in north Houston Monday.

Crews responded to the fire at 5422 North Freeway shortly after 9 p.m. Firefighters said flames and smoke were visible when they arrived.

Witnesses said the fire was at Aunt Bea's restaurant, owned by ex-councilman Jarvis Johnson.

Johnson said he is proud to have reopened the doors of Aunt Bea's, a Houston legacy.

No injures were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Houston Arson Bureau.
