ROSENBERG, Texas – The Rosenberg Police Department is spreading holiday cheer in an unexpected way -- by giving unsuspecting citizens gift cards instead of traffic tickets.
From now until Christmas, Rosenberg police officers will hand out one $25 Academy gift card each day to a stranger, often during a traffic stop.
The Rosenberg Police Department Association raised money to pay for half of the gift cards, while Academy donated the other half.
"It's our way of just kind of giving back to the citizens here," Officer Austin Eaton said.
The Rosenberg Police Department said it's celebrating 100,000 likes on Facebook, an impressive feat considering the entire city's population is slightly more than 30,000.
