Part of Houston Ship Channel closes after ship catches fire

HOUSTON – A vessel caught fire in the Houston Ship Channel on Monday, closing a 2-mile portion of the channel.

The fire broke out aboard the Navigator Europa on Monday morning when the crew was transferring ethylene at Target Dock #1, about three to four miles east of the 610 Loop bridge.

The Coast Guard and the Port of Houston immediately sent a fire boat and a crew to help extinguish the flames.

No injuries were reported.

The ship channel is closed from Greensport Dock to light buoy 164.
